I usually assume the many sailors of SL's many rivers and oceans are mainly on the waters because they're real life nautical aficionados, but tako owner Chesnut Rau reminds us of virtual sailing's meditative quality:
i cannot begin to explain why pretending to sail on a pixel ocean calms
me so, but it does...
i have to concentrate on the wind and pay attention to what i am doing
so it empties my mind of the other things that are rolling around in
there.

Not long ago I got the boating bug as well, starting with kayaks at Livingtree, then migrating into a flying taco that I sail there, through ANWR, and around Mohrr. It is really very relaxing, especially under the release client (windlight). I'm glad I'm not alone!

Sailing is one of the great things to do in the metaverse. It really has the effect of 20 mins meditation. Sure, that goes after you get used to the sea monsters of our world, those that wait hidden in the depths near the sim crossings. Invisible creatures that sunk your boat for a second or two. Sometimes they even rip some parts from the boat or kick sailors in the corner of the sim. But still, it is a great experience.

Hmm, I have to try this for myself. I can hardly expect it to give me the same effect as the real one. If this is as relaxing as you have described, though, I am more than willing to give it a try.
