As Lanna noted in her events list, I'll be in the futurist city of Extropia at 12pm SLT today with UC Irving Anthropology Professor Tom Bukowski/Boellstorff, who's new book from Princeton University Press, Coming of Age in Second Life, approaches SL culture and mores from a Margaret Mead-style perspective. Will be interesting to see how his perspective as an embedded anthologist compares to mine. Thanks to Extropia's Sophrosyne Stenvaag for helping bring us together.

They don't compare Hamlet - yours and Tom's books should be read side by side. They're incredibly complementary and should be required reading for anyone interested in virtual worlds. It's only as companion reads, however, that you can understand the full depth of SL, virtual worlds, and the models people are using to come to grips with how people are socializing, living, and engaging in virtual communities.

Thanks for the note, Dusan, and thanks for participating in the joint event, Hamlet! I had a great time, speaking for myself, and hope you and everyone else did too. I think Dusan hits the nail on the head that our books can be read side by side as different ways of approaching sl. And as time passes we'll see more work by visual artists, psychologists, musicians, futurists, economists, and who knows who else. I feel privileged to be part of such an exciting intellectual community.
