Somehow I think Colin Powell never imagined his military strategems would apply to the premiere of a virtual world nightclub heavy with stripper poles and scarlet lingerie, but there you are: Earlier this month, renowned Resident Codebastard Redgrave opened up Rouge, her new club, to a storm of publicity and excitement. The Second Life blogosphere immediately lit up with screenshots and on-site reports-- examples here and here and here-- rolling out so quickly, New World Notes was utterly scooped. (Indeed, Google "Codebastard Redgrave's new sim Rouge", and you get well over a 1000 hits.)
How did Ms. Redgrave mesmerize the metaverse so thoroughly? SL entrepeneur ArminasX Saiman has a detailed breakdown of the run-up to the promotion, which he likens to the Powell Doctrine. It's a good guide for other business owners who want to make a similar splash in Second Life. Of course, doing your product launch on an island shaped like a manacled woman in fishnet stockings and high heels is bound to help somewhat.
