Our shareholders meet in Second Life - ArcelorMittal TV
Ranked 39 in the Fortune Global 500 and the world's largest steel company, Arcelor Mittal broadcast video of its latest shareholder meeting into Second Life a few weeks ago, for the benefit of 60 Residents who were "existing and potential shareholders". These avatars asked questions to Arcelor boardmembers via Instant Message, the company's media site reports, while accessing corporate data (Activity Report, Fact Book, Sustainability Report) available at the corporation's SL site. Given that shareholders who can't attend company meetings in person generally resort to a voice-only conference call, this seems like one more case where a virtual world solution is actually more effective and practical than the existing alternative.
Hat tip for this story, as it happens, comes from newly appointed Linden Lab CEO Mark Kingdon, who I interviewed a few hours ago for GigaOM. (My interview with him should be running soon.) He ranked it among the most striking uses of Second Life he'd stumbled across in recent days.
