When Dusan Writer spotted a mysterious source code message on an as-yet disabled page of the official Second Life site, he was excited, because it said this: “placeholer [sic] page for XBOX, PS3, and iPhone versions of client when they launch next real soon now”. That just struck me as evidence of a Linden web developer with a mischievous sense of humor, so I smirked and remained skeptical. But then that message was blogged yesterday by Massively, and then Reuters today. Finally overcome by curiosity, I contacted the Lindens' PR representative, and just got back this official Linden response:
"We've seen tremendous ingenuity in the open source community with our viewer code base, with amazing and surprising developments every day, but we at Linden Lab are not actively working on a gaming console or iPhone port at this time."
Of course "actively" can be read ambivalently-- aha, that might still mean you have a couple devs in the Linden basement hacking up your 360 right now-- but given the mispelled, overly-enthusiastic wording of the message that started the rumor in the first place, I'm blaming gremlins until further notice.
Ha..if a "higher than expected load" with 35000 inworld borks the logins, I would respectfully say that all the talk of moving clients to other platforms is rather putting the cart before the horse. I could be ruder, but I'll leave that to Prok.

Not so much. That's SL running not-on-an-iPhone, with a copy of the display forwarded to the iPhone.

As I suspected - and I always wondered why an iPhone/XBox announcement would appear on a search page anyways. Fun little Easter Egg hunt but I still want to know what the chocolate bunny will be when Mitch takes the stand.
