After resembling a steampunk gentleman since May 2007, Phineas Messmer, decided to switch up his identity in a signficant way: flipping the gender switch, and trying out Second Life as a woman. (Here he is, contemplating the crossing: "Why would a straight male want to look at himself as an attractive female avatar at every login? Read the question again. The answer is right there.") So begins an adventure in virtual life from the other gender, with visits to the female nipple store, putting on a hot babe, dude magnet skin, and more. Follow the Mr./Ms. Messmer's further adventures on their blog, Experiments With Avatars. (Hat tip: the lovely Zoe Connolly.)

I had the same issue that Phineas had when I first crossed the gender barrier myself--people would read my profile and realize that I was not always the handsome young man I appeared to be.
