Update, 8/30: The winner of the LA Pier Screening has been selected, and alas, the judges didn't choose "Watch the World(s)". The award went to an animated version of the huge cult comic strip "Get Your War On", so as you can imagine, the competition was tough. Still, it was a great venue to showcase Robbie's work. Also, I wrote about my favorite Pier Screening machinima entries for NewTeeVee here, including Osprey Therian's "SynaesthAsia" (above), Bettina Tizzy's "Noobility", and "The Labyrinth" by Halden Beaumont, all very much worth a watch as well.
I just got the OK from the excellent Liz Gannes to announce this: I'm pleased to say Robbie Dingo's classic SL machinima "Watch the World(s)" has been chosen as a finalist at tonight's NewTeeVee Pier Screening tonight at 7pm in Los Angeles, the only machinima entry among several really good selections to make the cut. (I wrote about it here.) If you happen to be in the LA area and want to cheer on Robbie's machinima, see some other great short videos, and meet a lot of folks in the film/TV/online video biz, there's still some seating available-- here's the registration form.
This is a perfect way to reach non-virtual world users and communicate how impressive content creation can be in Second Life. I'm so proud of Robbie! I don't know one SL builder who didn't get teary-eyed upon seeing this video.

I have that painting right here not 5 feet away.
Note the glow effects. This was made 2 years ago.

I couldn't be there, alas; only in SL can we overcome the barriers of distance--but I'm happy to see that this amazing work has been recognized outside SL.
