Queens of the Stone Age has a song called "Leg of Lamb" with a lyric that reads:
In a hotel on the phone/You're gonna leave me/I should've known (should've known)/And I was thinkin', it's so sad/I didn't want you to go
Inspired by this passage, Gahum Riptide created a seedy hotel room in Second Life to fit the mood it evoked, the latest in a larger series. "I've been doing a series of images inspired by different songs I like," he tells me, "and one I had been meaning to capture is visualized in that image." After taking the screenshot, he did some surface post-processing, "mostly to soften the hard edges, bring out the blues in the shadows, make the highlights yellower and the midtones redder, but that's it."
See more of Gahum's work on his Flickr stream, view the entire New World Tableau album here-- and read on for guidelines to submitting one of your own.
Submitting to New World Tableau:
New World Tableau is an ongoing album featuring Residents who've turned SL screenshots into a new art form, vividly conveying emotions, stories, and entire cultures in a single image.
- If you come across a picture or image stream that deserves a place
here, please IM (Hamlet Au) or e-mail ([email protected]) me the link. Please e-mail me the image as a file link, or attached as an .jpeg or .gif, as long as it's under a meg in size.
- Submission tip: I regularly check the SL screenshot stream of New World Notes partner Koinup, an MMO social network-- consider creating an account there.
- Submitting as an in-world texture not recommended, as they often come out distorted and not high res.
- Feel free to describe what the image says to you, or if you're the creator, what inspired you to make it.
- Whenever possible, name the
Residents pictured, and include a SLURL to the location (when appropriate.)
-
Moderately Photoshopped
images are OK, just mention if this is the case, and what effects were
added. (On rare occasions when the post-production adds a special
element, heavily Photoshopped images are also appropriate.)
-
If you submit an image to NWT, it's assumed I have permission to run
it, either as the owner, or because it's been appropriately CC
licensed. The original creator retains all their rights to it, in any
case.
Thank you for featuring it, Mr. Au. I wanted to add here that some images have been far more successful than others in my book. My other favorite which seems to have been quite popular is the image taken at AM Radio's "The Quiet" which was inspired by Goldfrapp's "Deer Stop".

Maybe some grunge brushes need to make their way to this artist. That is not so seedy of a room lol. It is a very nice room!
Nice pic!

Ann: Thanks! I actually was going for a more dated look than seedy, but I suppose Mr. Au took that to mean seedy :). Sort of a 1970's dated look. I actually ended up liking that bedroom more than the actual bedroom in my house in SL!

It looks like the hotel room that Christopher reave uses to time travel back in time to meet Jane Seymour...i think the film was called 'Somewhere in time'..
