7Seas Fishing is a craze which struck the Grid earlier this year, and has since become a feature of communities as diverse as Edloe Island, medieval Avilion and Virtual Africa. Anyone can play, anyone can host their own games, and just recently the game was upgraded to an exciting third iteration, building upon and tightening up a feature set which caters to both solo play and competitions.
For those not familiar with 7Seas Fishing,
the game is a remarkably simple one. Find a designated fishing area,
cast your line and keep fingers crossed for a bite from one of hundreds
of fish species and trinkets available to catch and collect. The game's
strength comes from playing with others, and often when you go looking
for bespoke fishing spots you will find hosted contests and active
drop-in sessions.
My own experiences of playing the game began at Flotsam Beach,
the home of 7Seas Headquarters. I attended fishing/disco parties there,
where I could fish competitively and gain experience points while
enjoying the chat and music native to Grid parties. It can be
especially exciting when a player 'levels up' or catches an ultra-rare
fish during the course of events, and I would defy you not to cave in
to peer pressure when naming your new pets. 7Seas can also be taken at a leisurely pace if you so wish; any 7Seas
vendor can sell you and your community a server kit with which to start
your own fishing spot. These can be used to propagate casual and
competitive arenas, to which 7Seas 3 specifically offers customisable rods, a higher level cap and 7Seas 2's existing batch of team contest boats and scoreboards.
It is this versatility which I enjoy most about 7Seas. It can be molded to most game players' tastes, although it has been known to turn off those who might prefer action over a hands-off, social game. For that reason I recommend that you avoid approaching the game alone for your first time. Those who persist will, I'm sure, embrace this game as a lifestyle product, enabling their social encounters via an easy-to-use, transparent and solidly-scripted set of functions.
Vidal is the Extropian author of Vidal's Dolly Realm, and is keen to explore games out on the Second Life Grid. If you have a suggested game for her, please do send an SLURL and brief outline of the game to [email protected].
I'm still working on the "medical waste" custom catch for Edloe.

Excellent...I've added 7Seas to my underwater art gallery so folks can judge the art and then relax on the dock above! http://slurl.com/secondlife/Trelliana/58/84/22

I love this game!! Of course I'm a little biased since I live on Flotsam Beach. :D The Shikamis are great people and have created some of the best stuff on SL.
7Seas Fishing is a great way to pass some time, as well as a great way to socialize and meet new friends.

By the look of Vidal's eyes it appears that she's already been fishing...with the Deep Ones, off the shores of Innsmouth...

@Two Worlds:
Oh great, let's judge people by appearances shall we?
Judging from your comment it sounds like you're from the very shallow end of the pool.

Miss Tripsa's a Deep One Hybrid? She didn't tell me!
the big eyes are because she's a marionette, not a Deep One Hybrid. DOH's don't have control sticks floating above their heads.
There are no Deep Ones in Extropia, theyd have been bombed by the Caledon/Extropian Air forces.
Good 7seas fishing that didn't require making a deal with the deep ones, that's where I was introduced to the game, Might have to watch out in Caledon or Winterfell though.

What a bizarre response, 'Two Worlds'. Faerie's right - my eyes are doll eyes, as Hamlet has kindly pointed out in the past. Perhaps I also enjoy having broader eyes with which to see the world around me. :)
