We're in the final days of Burning Life, which winds down at the end of this weekend, on October 5. In the run-up to the close, there's been an explosion of BL dispatches from the metavese blogosphere-- here's a rundown of some highlights:
Ignatius Onomatopoeia has a report on the Burning Life appearance by Philip Linden and Larry Harvey, founder of the original Burning Man festival, rich with quotes and observations like this one:
Harvey noted how crippled our lives in the US are by consumption. Burning Man provides an alternative idea of how we might reconstruct society. Outside Burning man “people grow up in this other reality” too often without a community impulse. The zinger of the night went to Larry, about the difference between Burning Man and Burning Life. He noted that “when you can smell people, you know you are in a community.”
Caliandris Pendragon reviews Elfod Nemeth's magical mystery lava clock (above left); in light of the ongoing global financial crisis inspired by the US housing meltdown, Chesnut Rau's report from a Burning Life site where the American dream seems to dissolve into dust (above right) seems particurlarly (unfortunately) appropos.
And of course, the unofficial Burning Life website is going strong with posts, site reviews, and images. If you come across other quality BL blogging, please post links in Comments.
The real Burning Life event in Nevada is a very participatory event, where the distinction between spectators and actors of the event tend to blend on a daily basis.
Not such thing in Burning Life: even scripts are forbidden on the sims! So I guess we are supposed to go there and passively watch the spectacles as if we were watching TV. This is such a misconception of what the web3.0 will be about...
