Here's the archive of last Monday's Metanomics show, where I was one of many book author guests, including Eddie Shah, Tom Boellstorff, Mark Bell, and Julian Dibbell. My microphone seems to be annoyingly distorted in places, so you might want to read the text transcript, instead. It's all worth a gander, but I especially liked Tom Bukowski's description of being an avatar-based anthropologist, and Benjamin Duranske's advice for virtual world writers and bloggers, offered as he gives up his Virtually Blind blog to become a practicing lawyer working in virtual world law. An excerpt:
[D]on’t drink the Kool Aid or at least know how much Kool Aid you’ve had. I suspect that everyone of us up here is guilty of this to some degree... You have to be open minded to write anything predictive fairly.
Eddy Shah!!! Where on earth did they dig Eddy Shah up from? I haven't heard that name for years. I'll have to go look him up inworld now.
