Charlanna Beresford’s weekly round-up of upcoming SL events…
I've gone up North to help an old friend get ready for the holidays and with things being so busy (all that naughty/nice list checking, you know!), Hamlet and I decided to include only a few events and have an open forum for people to share events. So here are just a few of the great events happening this week:
- The SL Festival of Human Rights started on December 10 and runs through December 15; this multi-sim event has great exhibits and wonderful performances scheduled for each day of the festival. Check their website for a full schedule or visit some of the exhibits in Angel's Nest (click here to teleport).
- The Stylista Festival 2008 is a fashion and music festival is being held on Friday, December 12th at 3 PM to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America. This fashion show will include new one-of-a-kind releases available for auction and be followed by an hour of live music by Jonas Lunasea. In The Best of Boulevard (click here to teleport).
- "Life is a Bowl of..." is opening their very interesting multi-artist collaborative on Sunday, December 14 at 11AM. 30 of SL's better known artists were given the challenge to complete the phrase "Life is a bowl of..." using a 30m bowl, a set number of prims and their imaginations. Come see the fascinating results in Caerleon Isle (click here to teleport).
So dear readers, I know this is just an tiny bit of what is happening on the grid this week; do you know of fun and interesting SL happenings going on in the next few days? Please post a description with day, time, and place (ideally with a SLURL) in Comments, and we'll feature as many events as we can.
Rezzable is proud to announce the opening of our 'Rezzable Alpha Grid' - based on the OpenSim system - for testing by our fellow virtual world citizens, and invite you to take part in it. Currently we are running eight sims, including a replica of Greenies Home and a bunch of empty ones with plywood in them. Our stress tests will take place at Greenies OpenSim Home and takes the form of a giant party, with host Angelina Rhode. (Yeah, we've duplicated her too! ;)) Theme: Find the 7 Differences. Dates are Wednesday December 17th and Thursday December 18th starting 1PM SLT.

West of Ireland Storytellers:
Raise Awareness of PROJECT CHILDREN through
Presentation of Holiday Classic
West of Ireland, Second Life – The talented West of Ireland Library staff is dedicated to promoting quality literary works from around the world with special emphasis on works from Irish and Celtic sources. The Library's staff of Storytellers will be joined by other notable WOI personalities to form a cast of eleven readers to present Charles Dicken's A Christmas Carol for two performances only: Sunday, December 14 at 11am (slt) and Monday, December 15 at 7pm (slt) at the West of Ireland Library and Cultural Center.
All the performers are volunteers and donations are accepted to support Project Children, a real world non-profit positively affecting the lives of children in Northern Ireland: Second Life activity, with meaningful Real Life results. "A Christmas Carol is my absolute favorite Christmas tale" shared Aoife Lorefield, Storyteller and creator of this adapted version, "It's is a story about how changing our hearts can change lives ... what better way for the West of Ireland Library to celebrate these holidays and support Project Children?"
Popular Storyteller Shandon Loring is currently slated to voice the famously flinty and curmudgeonly "Ebeneezer Scrooge", and will be joined by Storytelling regulars Aoife Lorefield, Derry McMahon, Elder Priestman, Caledonia Skytower and others. Also joining in the merriment will be popular DJs including Spyot Denima as "Fred", Dave93 Nieuport as "Christmas Present", and Keira Colclough as "Belle" and "Tiny Tim." West of Ireland CEO Sioban McMahon will voice "Christmas Past."
Storyteller Aoife Lorefield has written an adaptation from Dicken's original with an eye and ear to capitalizing on the musical "Carol" nature of the classic tale. Lorefield's adaptation focuses less on individual characters, with the exception of a few main significant voices such as Scrooge, and more on the choral aspect of the storytelling.
The success of the library staff's group/choral story reading of Bram Stoker's Dracula in October, with capacity audiences for the two performances, inspired them to take on this new project for the December Holidays.

The West of Ireland is a Second Life simulation (sim) created to support the programs of the South Texas Celtic Music Association (STCMA), a recognized 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in the United States. Additionally, the West of Ireland has been approved by Linden Labs, the creators of Second Life, as a certified nonprofit.
The mission of the West of Ireland is to promote Irish and Celtic culture within Second Life and raise awareness of Project Children, while providing guests and community members with an entertaining and welcoming environment and to raise funds for Project Children.

Project Children is an international organization that takes children from Northern Ireland on summer trips to stay with host families in the United States. Catholic and Protestant children are brought together in a calm and multi-cultural environment in an effort to overcome the stronghold of prejudices that have burdened Northern Ireland for so long. The STCMA raises funds for Project Children at its annual Celtic Music Festival and through the Second Life West of Ireland sim to pay the transportation costs for children participating in Project Children.

At Goony Island they have decided to do away with the over commercial Santa Claus and instead invited Egnog the Christmas troll. Hes a big cuddly Furry troll who if you ask nicely will tell you a riddle. When you correctly answer the riddle you get a free christmas present :)
So far he is a favourate with SL families who take their SL kids to see him and collaberate in solving the riddles which range from very easy , to hard ones that require you to explore the Openspace Sim for the answer.
On top of this, almost the entire island is frozen so you can put on free steam powered ice skates and skate to your hearts content.

Saturday, Dec 13 - 12:45 PM SL - Eshi Otawara’s Winter/Spring Collection at BOSL Patch Thibaud Auditorium
Eshi Otawara’s Winter/Spring Collection - her first Collection in the “Eshi Otawara” line - incorporating elements born of spring, power, strength and light from within, while embracing softness, curves, blossoms, and lightness.
There are symbols from Japan throughout the collection, from airy blooms to powerful petals, all with a wonderful blend of coloration, patterns, and contrasts. They present a collection rejoicing in rebirth, celebrating longevity and stylizing courage and ability. These living jewels bring a collection which will delight the visual senses in every way.
****Limited Edition KABUKI Dress:
Eshi Otawara announces her first Limited Edition dress under her new “Eshi Otawara” label. This “KABUKI” dress is a mix of traditional and postmodern inspiration, which uses regular prims to the fullest extent, taking simple elements to create a complex design. It is reminiscent of Akira Kurosawa’s visions. This dress combines elements of Japanese umbrellas, futuristic prosthetic arm jewelry, delicate skin, sharp edges, and soft feathered extensions, all of which come together in an apposition in this dress.
The incredible Eshi Otawara Limited Edition “KABUKI” dress will be for sale on Saturday, at the BOSL theatre, the site of her Winter/Spring Collection premier. One of these dresses has already been spoken for; only 5 of the remaining Limited Edition “KABUKI” dresses will be available for purchase for L$50,000. Nothing. I took one, at one go and it had zero in point of fact on me. All I absolutely did was scrap a dose. For women, this is a morality come about to "ethical say no".
