I'm bald and dressed like Jean-Luc Picard, but that's indeed Hamlet Au outside Second Life for the first time, in the OpenSimulator metaverse. In the OpenSim Alpha grid of NWN partner Rezzable, to be exact. I'm here in the Alpha grid's informal welcome area, which is also a giant sandbox. (Wonder what would happen if the Lindens tried that? May actually help with retention.) My obvious bias aside, I have to say it's like breathing fresh air to be in a sim without lag, where I can turn all my graphic features up to full, and still whiz around with decent frame rate. I hope to make this and other OpenSim grids a regular part of my metaverse reporting, seeing what comes of these new frontiers.
Just as cool, you can export your Second Life name to the Rezzable grid. To do that, you teleport to the Greenies area in SL, click "Register New Account", and follow all the onscreen prompts. There's a launcher you need to download, which automatically launches your SL client, but points and teleports you into the Rezzable Alpha grid.
Here's all the info for joining me in the test group, in the "Registering for the Rezzable Alpha Grid" section. The setup process is fairly involved, just be sure to read the step-by-step process carefully. Of course, this is all just Alpha, so caveat avatar.
welcome! we gonna make you a milkman outfit so you feel more at home. Remember how to set appearance?
