This is strange: for the longest time, on every Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Lindens would emblazon the Reverend's face into the Second Life sun. (Above left, there's the sun on MLK day in 2007, presiding over in-world protests against an anti-immigrant political party.) I just went in-world to take a photo of the sun, as I usually do every holiday, and the King is gone. (He's not even visible at several thousand meters up, which is where I took the pic above right.) Did I miss his appearance, or is it happening later today? Would be a sadness if it's just the case that the tradition has been suspended.
Update, 3:40pm: Just talked with a Linden developer, who tells me that the segment of code to customize the texture of heavenly bodies (i.e., to add Dr. King's face in the sun today, or make the sun seem heart-shaped for Valentine's Day, etc.) was indeed disabled when the sky was upgraded to WindLight, but isn't sure why.
Actually, I don't recall seeing ANY of the seasonal/holiday suns since SL upgraded to Windlight. I miss those - they were fun!

The functionality was there, but largely ignored since the 1,000,000 member sun in October 2006. They did not do a Halloween sun that year, and the next speciality sun was MLK in 2007. They did not have a MLK in 2008, nor any other suns (friday the 13th, halloween, St Patrick's, Easter, or Valentine's Day). Here's an article on it from the former SL History Wiki: http://secondlife.wikia.com/wiki/Holiday_Suns_and_Moons
