Surreal Babii, her alt VicBushfireAppeal Fireguard, and Ziggy Quirk with benefit koala
Second Life has a fairly large and passionate contingent of Australian-based Residents, so as news of the horrific brushfires in Victoria spread, it's not surprising that content creators from around the world have created benefits and fundraising events to help them out. For instance, fashionista Ziggy Quirk is selling a koala pet, with all proceeds going to the Australian Red Cross. As it happens, Ziggy has been directly impacted by the deadly fires, because in real life she lives near the blaze: "I have not lost any close friends," she writes on her blog, "but there are people who are now missing from my life and the lives of their loved ones." Another Aussie, Surreal Babii, has created an alt account avatar named VicBushfireAppeal Fireguard solely for this benefit drive-- all Linden Dollars paid to that avatar will be converted to cash via Paypal, and also sent to the ARC. (She's hoping a Red Cross rep will accept a check in person.)
Moggs Oceanlane has a long and extremely handy list of the near 30 content creators who are selling content for this drive, with shopping links and SLURLs. Also note the upcoming weekend festival hosted on land donated by entertainment empresario Stroker Serpentine.
Thank you for the mention Hamlet. We are hoping that the event we are planning Digital Angel, which will be an event where we will have musicians playing, and also wonderful content creators who have donated items to sell for the cause. All money raised will be going to the Red Cross bushfire appeal. We have donation kiosks we are handing out, if you would like one IM Surreal Babii, Trix Noel, nuvolino Roffo or Marcia Scott to grab one. If you are reading this and would like to help, drop me a notecard and I will get back to you. We still need musicians and creators to really make this event happening. We have been fortunate enough that Stroker Serpentine has let us use part of his sim for the event. So please If you see a donation Kiosk, anyones, please give generously. These people, families , towns need our help.
