Slactions 2009 is a monumentally ambitious metaverse conference this September that'll cover wide-ranging topics based around Second Life, OpenSim, Open Croquet, Activeworlds, Open Source Metaverse, and Project Wonderland, everything to gender studies and education to advertising and technology applications. As befitting a virtual world conference, it'll take place within Second Life and real world locations in seven countries. (The US branches will be at UC Berkeley and University of Texas at Austin.) Among the coordinators is Ana Boa-Ventura, a brilliant Portuguese academic based at UT-Austin who's been researching Second Life since 2003. They're calling for presentation proposals, with a deadline of March 31st. Counting the three US-based SLCC-related conferences and MetaMeets in Amsterdam, we now have at least five metaverse conferences this year to choose from. (Many thanks to my Portuguese translator, the lovely and talented Ms. Tonjampae Amat, for the link.)
