For the last four years, metaverse artist AngryBeth Shortbread has been making lovely Second Life devices and installations that often don't have a specific purpose other than interactive whimsy. (Here's her SL blog with many more wonders; in real life she's actually a lecturer at a UK arts college.) Here's the latest one of these, a platform floating in space, upon which are floating rainbow colored bubbles, and when you crash into them, pop most satisfyingly. "The bubbles you collide with are simple sphere prims," Ms. Shortbread explains to me. "On collision they explode with a particle effect of bubbles. There's no deep and meaningful ideas behind the piece-- but hopefully it's as fun and relaxing as popping bubble wrap." Got to imagine it's a great thing for impromptu dance parties, too. Explode them for yourself at her art lab in The Port, and bring friends. This SLurl takes you to a teleport station that'll transport you to the bubble room: [Direct SLurl teleport at this link]
