Fatima's Black Board is a blog/resource site devoted to the black experience. Maintained by Ms. FatimaO Ochl (pictured), the most recent post is an interview with five black avatars who've been in Second Life in the earliest years of 2003-2004. Lots of intriguing experiences from several successful individuals, including the regal and eclectic Ms. Eboni Khan, who I profiled back in 2005. They discuss a wide range of topics, from the difficulty of creating or finding a decent black avatar, and encounters with virtual racism (or not). Most fascinating to me, Jana Fleming talks about being part of a black church in SL, the River of Life. "It's not a roleplay but an actual church with actual services," she tells Fatima. "It has become a large part of the black community for worship on Sunday mornings." Read the rest here. Hat tip to Nexeus Fatale, a manager of SLCC who is, as it happens, also featured in Ms. Ochl's profile. Image credit: Fatimaochl.net.
