Earth2Tech: Eco Gamers: Manage Energy in a Virtual World with Shaspa
I just posted an a story on green tech blog Earth2Tech about OpenShaspa, an open source energy management kit that connects your real world home's power consumption to a control system that can be managed on the web, your mobile phone... or in a scale recreation of the house in OpenSimulator, the open source spin-off of Second Life. To my knowledge, this is first hardware package to make this possible. As Shaspa co-founder Oliver Goh tells me, once you have it running, you can ask an avatar friend to look after your real world house while you’re on vacation. Read more about it here.

How long till someone hacks the program and wreaks your house? I really wouldn't feel comfortable with this at all.

I think its really cool to be able to keep track of appliances and whats on in my house when I'm not there... as long as its secure and hackproof :)
