Sirikata Browser Demo from Sirikata on Vimeo
Yesterday I mentioned the Metaverse U demo of dynamic web pages running in Sirikata, the open source virtual world, but only had a shabby photo to show it off. Project lead (and Linden alum) Henrik Bennetsen was nice enough to shoot this video, showing off the interactive web experience in all its virtual world glory. At the moment the technology is only compatible with Google Chrome (which personally suits me just fine.) As with the Metaverse U presentation, my favorite part of this demo comes around 2:30, when Henrik streams video from his webcam onto a webpage in Sirikata, and points the camera at the laptop screen -- thus displaying the live video feed of the web page in Sirikata displaying the live video feed of the web page in Sirikata ad infinitum.
The code that makes this possible was created by Adam Simmons; JeanRicard Broek has much more technical background here. Henrik says the Sirikata team is actively looking for developers "with strong C++ skills".
Realxtend client has working web pages, no?
And what about OpenCroquet with its VNC-like abilities?
