When I follow the link in the article to Acropoli on Koinup and then the slurl there, I arrive in sl at a beach sim with cookie-cutter lots for sale, not at anywhere that resembles the Koinup photos. Similar errors have happened before when I try to visit places featured in this weekly round-up. Am I doing something wrong or are these links in error?

Heya Steven,
let me explain a bit more how the places work on Koinup. The Slurl that you can find in the Acropoli homepage: http://www.koinup.com/sim/Acropoli/ is the central hub of the sim
so when you teleport there you see a scenery that its sometime different from the images you see in the slideshow.

Therefore if you wanna teleport in the exact place you see in the image, you have to load that specific image and then open the client with the specific slurl below the image.
For example: http://www.koinup.com/Liqueur/work/158473/
