Final tally from American Cancer Society's SL Relay site
Update, Noon, 7/19: At 10:29am today, Rik Riel reports the excellent news: this year the Second Life Relay has raised over USD$258,036 in Linden Dollar contributions for the American Cancer Society. Final tabulation next week.
Donation total as of 1pm SLT today
Second Life's annual Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society finally launched about an hour ago; as of just a few minutes ago, the total donations raised by hundreds of running teams are just a few thousand US dollars shy of a quarter million. If you haven't donated yet, you have less than 24 hours to do so. However, with so many runners and supporters on the Relay course already, the lag will likely make it difficult to find a donation kiosk in-world. (And far as I can tell, the official website only accepts direct US$ contributions, not Lindens Dollars.) Despite such hurdles, can we reach or exceed $250,000?
Thanks to Pooky Amsterdam, there's at least one alternative in-world donation method: a silent auction for many fabulous SL items donated by their creators, with all funds going to the Relay. I just bid on the artificial life goldfish in this tank, created by ZenMondo Wormser to breed and die after their life cycle. There's also several ornate statues, castles, vehicles, and other wonders in-world. Just right click on the sign next to the item you want to bid on, then follow the on-screen instructions to submit your offer. You have until tomorrow Noon SLT to make a bid, with the highest offers getting their treasure from Ms. Amsterdam and team shortly after. Direct SLurl teleport to the silent auction site at this link.
Looks like they reached it!
