The other day I was lucky enough to catch up with the avatar of Markos Moulitsas Zúniga the founder and publisher of Daily Kos, an influential U.S. progressive community blog. He told me about the Netroots Nation
Conference taking place in
Pittsburgh, PA this weekend. The Conference will be streamed into SL and a full calendar

Immediately after the President concludes his remarks Jimbo Hoyer of Virtually Speaking will interview Markos Moulitsas Zúniga today 8/13 at 6:30pm. Markos was named "the single most successful entrepreneur of the progressive movement" by NY Times magazine writer Matt Bai. He is co-author of the critically acclaimed book Crashing the Gate: Netroots, Grassroots, and the Rise of People-Powered Politics, and author of Taking on the System: Rules for Radical Change in a Digital Era. Saturday 8/15
If you have been in SL for any length of time you have probably heard about the Giant Snail Races that have been held since the earliest days of our world. If not, its time you got in on the crazy antics. If you want to race contact Waelya Tenk who will help you through the Snail Orientation process. The course is simple enough that if you run through it once before the race you should be fine. Make sure you get there in time to register (10:30). Last weekend I had the pleasure of listening to Fierce Tibetan Gods. The band is a RL group that is making the leap to the virtual worlds. The musicians are Perry Geyer, Andrew Wolf, Rie Imai and Greg Hawkes who you may remember from the band the Cars. The show is a mix of live music and prerecorded tracks that will knock your socks off. 7PM - Traditional Japanese Orian Performace
The artists and apprentices of the Shinmachi District have prepared a special performance based on traditional Japanese poems and tales. For this event, music, dance and traditional costume will be shared. The Shinmachi District is a Hanamachi and Performance house for Geiko (Geisha), Oiran (Tayuu) and kabuki actors.
