In this seriously cute machinima from Draxtor Despres, Bill Gates crashes a Mac store, griefs an SL sandbox, and tries to convince Apple lovers that they should switch to Vista. (The parody is actually a promotional for a metaverse development company.) Incorporates clever use of a real world celebrity's audio clips, a comedic standby I'd love to see used in more SL machinima. (As we saw with last month's "I'm Too Busy To Date Your Avatar" hit send-up of Felicia Day's "Do You Want to Date My Avatar", parodies based on recognizable personalities have a much better chance of going viral.) Gates' avatar is scarily accurate from some angles, though the bad lip sync jars at times. Thanks to SLurl Twitter master Ozzy for the tip; read more about the machinima here.

Thank you for posting this! Though our metaverse development company (Sand Castle Studios) created all the content for this machinima, and it includes our logo, it is actually not really an advertisement for us, but a mock up we did for a client regarding a forth coming RL project. Regardless, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks Ozzy for submitting it!

Thank you for writing about our little test machinima, Hamlet! I wish there would be more comedy and satire in SL. Lip sync of course is always an issue. My friends in the movie/animation business use the inaccurate sync as the prime example that SL machinima WILL FAIL and is nothing more than a playpen for amateurs.....I have chosen not to use Crazy Talk or other pug-ins for my reportage and BAVC interview segments, but rather the available (very basic) lip loop in the SL client. With frequent cutaways and use of reaction shots (and of course good quality audio and voice-over talent), music and visuals, a certain intimacy and realism can be achieved. The CA Legacy segments i believe are a good example of that. IN re. Bill Gates: when you use pre-exisiting soundbites, there are even more limitations, but I have to say: growing up in Germany in the 70ties with dubbed American movies, I have seen a lot worse...well, I tried.....

Ozzy Wozniak: I'm sure Bill Gates will be happy that you like his voice, because from what I could tell it *was* Bill Gates' voice, just context-relevant samples listed from various speeches and interviews that Bill has given over the years.
