Chestnut Rau’s weekly round-up of upcoming SL events…
Ahhh.....Burning Life. I just love this celebration of creativity and community in Second Life. The SL Burning Life Celebration is modeled after the RL Burning Man Festival that takes place in the in the High Nevada Desert in a place called Black Rock City. The participants in Burning Man create a real world city of 50,000 people built entirely by its citizens which lasts just a week. During that time the residents build public plazas, roads, art, rituals and spectacles. If that sounds familiar there is a good reason. Numerous employees of Linden Lab were regulars at Burning Man and the story is that Philip Linden conceived of Second Life there.
This year is the 7th time residents have banded together to create the SL version of Black Rock City. The Festival takes place between October 17th and 25th and includes everything from collaborative art spaces, to live music, to comedy, drum circles, performance art, and artists duels. I had the privilege of exploring and the builds are stunning. You will find professional art installations and personal creations, both expansive and diminutive, and the builds span multiple sims. You can find the Burning Life 2009 Interactive Map here and a full calendar of events here.
There is a lot to explore at Burning Life but time is limited so get on your most outrageous yet low lag ensemble and go. I will surely see you there.
Also after the break: New to SL Musician Travis Darmoset Live, Dr. Knop Talks Astronomy, Performance of "Peace" by Aristophanes and much much more
(All event times in SLT, "Second Life Time"-- i.e., Pacific Standard)
