Chestnut Rau’s weekly round-up of upcoming SL events…
Immersive installations that the push the boundaries of the art world are some of the most innovative events in Second Life. From huge collaborative events like Burning Life to pulsing, glowy sculptures found on just about every sim, digital art is everywhere. How does the new genre of digital art change the traditional art world? Are artists working in virtual spaces making "Outsider Art?"
On Friday 10/23 at 11:30am come listen to an interesting talk "Outside of What?" by Lance Winn, Associate Professor, Department of Art, University of Delaware. This discussion will explore the historic status of "Outsider Art" and how SL artists conform to or deviate from the mainstream art world. The talk will touch on how we might think of being self-taught at a time when software used by digital artists is continually developing. In addition to this presentation, there will be an ongoing art exhibit featuring work by Bryn Oh, AM Radio, Cheen Pitney, Sabrinaa Nightfire and many other well respected SL artists. This exhibit is curated by Firery Broome. In University of Delaware. [SLurl teleport at this link]
