Chestnut Rau’s weekly round-up of upcoming SL events…
The grid is covered with pumpkins, zombies are everywhere looking to slurp up our avatar brains, and people are dressed in even more crazy ways than usual, which can only mean one thing -- it's Halloween in Second Life! If you are looking for ways to celebrate the season there are plenty of parties and events happening. Here is a partial list with more scary fun after the break.
- Thursday 10/29 at 7pm - Ghostly Stories with Shandon Loring. Shandon reads from The Dead Smile, by F. Marion Crawford. This macabre story will chill you to the bone. Shandon also reads from Housewarming, by Steve Rasnic Tem. A subtle study of mounting terror, poor Judith creates her own fear-ghost, one that will be around for a long time. - Friday 10/30, All Day - Masquerade Ball with the Phantom of the Opera. From 9am to 12 midnight every hour on the hour you can hear a different live musician at the lovely Paris Opera House. Listen to the wonderful music from some of the top perfomers from Russell eponym, Keith Mdasen, Inchino Melson, Hazideon Zarco, Sojourn Rossini, Mimi Carpenter, Strum Diesel, Harper Messer, Damian Carbenell, Amforte Clairity, Skye Galaxy and more. - Friday 1/30 at 6pm- Extreme Reality Halloween Party. With music provided by Slim Warrior, Doubledown Tandino, Zak Claxton and DJ Eris this party is sure to be attended by the SL Glitterati. There will be Halloween trivia with Hydra Shaftoe so you can show off how scary smart you are, pumpkin boat races, bobbing for apples, and a haunted grave yard where you can practice your zombie shooting skills. Saturday 10/31 - Roleplayers at Erie Isle Host Two Costume Balls. The haunted Erie Isle is crawling with ghosts, demons and vampires. The trick is -- on Erie, the dead walk among the living you never know who (or what) you might bump into. The first event will be the “Halloween Ball” in the Sacred Garden on Erie port at 1pm. Prizes for the best male, and best female costume as well as gift bags for attendees provided by Vanilla C. Designs. Later in the evening at a secret Erie Isle location Randolph Renfold and Journey Maertens host the “Light and Dark Ball”. 11am - Avatar Orchestra Metaverse in Alizarin Goldflake's Oratorio.
The Avatar Orchestra Metaverse is a global collaboration of artists using the SL platform as an instrument. Members conceive, design, and build their own virtual instruments which allow them to trigger independent sounds in real time. Visuals and animations are also included, making a performance of the jumping, hovering, dancing, twirling Avatar Orchestra Metaverse a spellbinding event. Noon - Fall Surf Fest 2009
The first Second Life Surfing Festival is today from noon until 3pm. The Festival will be located on the Pacific Coast Hwy SIM. There will live entertainment, a surfboard art contest, surfing exhibitions, surf product merchants and creators. From 1pm until 2pm there will be a surfing exhibition featuring the latest craze in surfing community ; Wipe Out surfing. 1pm - Mush Room - An Interactive Illustration
mush ROOM is a graphic, 3D art installation by Scottius Polke. The setting is a bedroom with the typical furnishings, however the room is inhabited by the artist's subconscious - which sometimes manifests itself in lifeforms such as mushrooms, molds, amoebas, and other unclassifiable types of organisms. The bedroom is a fitting location for these life forms to slowly creep and wander - and like the images and feelings that come out when we dream sleeping in our beds, their effect remains with us even when awake. 8PM - 10PM LunaCast Plays Live Techno Music and Video Stream
Using a rack of computers, synthesizers and other sound and video manipulators the LunaCast house band, robots.txt, spin a mix of original electronica and a VJ feed. Jason Grosz of robots.txt combines found sound, spoken word recordings and classic space jams with heavy synthesizer and percussion to create music the likes of which you have never heard before. Resident-made content (live music, builds, scripting, fashion, games, etc.) Events that merely promote the company or organization's Second Life presence
are not generally appropriate; you may instead consider advertising your event or service on New World Notes.
6. Mature-rated events are permissible, but listing descriptions should
be PG-13. Political and religious events are encouraged, though those
of an
extreme or non-inclusive variety are rarely included.
7. Bonus consideration given to game-related or machinima events, and
for events with "I've never seen that in SL before!" value.
