My worlds keep getting increasingly mashed up: Today I arrived at the new office of new MMO startup ohai, where I'm helping write City of Eternals, only to find Philip Rosedale wandering the halls, and Ryan Downe busily working in a corner. As it turns out, their new company LoveMachine Inc. is still an office-less, vagabond operation, and they often stop by friends' companies to catch up and do some work. (Philip's pals with Susan Wu, ohai's founder and CEO.) There are also vague plans to buy a Scooby Doo-style LoveMachine Inc. van, to turn the company into a roving operation. After catching up with my ex-Linden colleagues from the early years of SL, Philip showed me some of the companies' future plans for "SendLove", a general use version of the Lindens' employee rating system, the Love Machine. There's some additional, pretty impressive elements that will be unveiled soon. Meantime, here's a manifesto of sorts on the company's site: "What is SendLove? Reinventing corporate culture."

I want a Love Machine van too... with bead curtains, and blacklights, and lava lamps, and a waterbed, and an 8-track playing "The Best of Bread"...
(I'm only being halfway silly... the other half is genuinely nostalgic :)

I notice they are posting on Craigslist:

They basically want people to do work for free as part of their interview process...

I would hardly call the opportunity to hold hands in the firm embrace of the oh so hunky Phil as "working for free".
You should pay them.
