Chestnut Rau’s Weekly round-up of upcoming SL events…
The Caerleon Artists Group is comprised of more than 30 artists and educators who work on collaborative projects, art exhibitions, classes lectures and workshops. This Sunday January 17th from 1pm to 3pm, the public is invited to an opening party to celebrate Steaming Hot, an installation on the Erato of Caerleon sim. During the opening party attendees will be treated to a performance and music by MammaLuv SkyTower. Read more about her here.
Steaming Hot is a large show that includes steampunk builds by leading artists including Bryn Oh, Zhora Maynard, Wizard Gynoid and many others. This show is curated by my friend Sabrinaa Nightfire who always seems to have her hand in great art installations in Second Life. You can find a complete list of the participating artists here. 2pm - Nomanisan Straits Art Gallery Presents The Dead Art Planet Opening
Listen to the music and poetry by Ultraviolet as you explore Betty Tureaud's art installation "The Dead Art Planet" Enter this immersive and interactive build located in a lonely planet with no life. There is a huge sphere in the center of the space and as visitors touch the sphere shapes and patterns emerge making a fully interactive installation. 5pm - Oxbridge Class: SL Economics -- Sell What You Make
This one-hour course for beginners zooms through the steps between a creator with dreams and a successful merchant. Think of it as "Product, Presentation, Pricing, Promotion, and Pipeline." 7pm - Fricker Fracker at Crap Mariner's Clocktree
Fricker Fracker will perform an Awakening ceremony at the Clocktree as we switch from Winter to Spring on the island. 1pm to 4pm - Redzone Live at CBGB in SL
In case you missed Redzone's show last week you have another chance. Redzone is a UK band who's members are Cabaret Voltaire (vocals/electric violin), Red Xu (guitar/bass guitar/samples), and Avomatsur Rustamova (synth/electric double bass/theremin). The band has a unique and original sound, fusing industrial, hiphop, electronica, classical, with alternative and ambient influences. 4pm - Live Blues with JimmyT49 Dukes at Mississippi Delta Blues
JimmyT49 Dukes is a guitarist, singer and songwriter who was raised on old motown R&B. His style also includes a strong rock component which he incorporates in his both original songs and the tunes he covers. 5pm to 7pm - Pilgrim Swashbuckler and Greg Colburn Live at Triumph Cove
An evening of energetic live music at the seaside Triumph Cove venue. First up is Pilgrim Swashbuckler aka Pete Mroz at 5pm. As my friend Joonie says "Pilgrim is the real deal." He has a rich voice and composes many of his own songs. His portion of the show is well worth catching. But don't leave when Pilgrim finishes because you will want to listen to Greg Colburn aka Greg Golossus who play pop and rock with a twist of jazz folk and classic blues. - Events sponsored or promoted by real world corporations are welcome, as long they serve and entertain the Second Life community, and/or foster Resident-made content (live music, builds, scripting, fashion, games, etc.) Events that merely promote the company or
- organization's Second Life presence are not generally appropriate; you may instead consider advertising your event or service on New World Notes.
- Mature-rated events are permissible, but listing descriptions should be PG-13. Political and religious events are encouraged, though those of an extreme or non-inclusive variety are rarely included.
- Bonus consideration given to game-related or machinima events, and for events with "I've never seen that in SL before!" value.
