Pocket Metaverse, the iPhone/iPad app for accessing Second Life that I've written about (and used) extensively, has now sold about 10,000 copies since going into the App Store last December, the developers told me last week. That will give you a rough estimate of how many people are interested in accessing SL via the iPhone or the iPad. It's also a pretty strong sales run for the two Residents who make the app: Edward Magic and Robot Core (their SL names, obviously).
"We thought there would be a good number of people who would be interested in connecting to SL from their iPhones," Ed tells me, "and the response has been better than we expected. There's a pretty big backlog of features that people have been asking for, and we'll keep working away at adding those over time." (When their day jobs permit.) "A lot of the requests we get are for things like more inventory, groups, and land management features, and those are going to be the focus of future development."
Those features, however, will be available in the $2.99 Touch Metaverse "Pro", because now, there's a free version of the app, which comes with basic Instant Messaging and chat. (You an upgrade to Pro from within the app.) So expect the install base for a Second Life powered by the iPhone to get even bigger soon.
I don't know if it is the free version but it won't work without a crash lol. unuseful app.
