You can access Second Life on your iPad with a limited use app, but you can also run the full 3D graphics version on it too. Don't believe me? Watch this demo from glamorous Italian machinima and tech expert Roberta Cirillo (known in SL as Loren Merlin) - the Second Life joy starts at roughly 6:20 in:
How does she do it? With an app called iTeleport. "[I]t lets you use your desktop computer (Windows or Macintosh) in remote, like a 'mirror' of it in your iPad, even if you're far away, in another country," Loren tells me. "You simply have to download iTeleport for iPad and 'iteleport connect' on your desktop (or laptop) computer... then follow the instructions and enjoy all your software (SL included) in remote on your iPad!"
As you might guess (and as you can see from her demo), the connection to SL isn't exactly lag-free, to say the least. "It works in all is functions, except for audio," says Roberta, "but it's quite slower than in the laptop or desktop computer. No problem for live chat!" So for basic interaction or just as a cool stunt, it's still pretty cool.
Heh.
I spoke on this a few weeks ago even before my iPad 3G arrived. Simple remote desktop App. There are dozens for the iPhone and at least three for the iPad.
Nice way to tease potential readers into clicking into this story by following current "newscaster headline "teaser" rules". HOOKED LIKE A FISH.
