A couple years ago I wrote about a Second Life project from Tokyo Metropolitan University professor Hidenori Watanave, which displays media on a kind of giant latticework of cubes. The idea is to display vast amounts of information within a single navigable space, which is impressive in itself -- but as you can see here, it also works as a cool but low budget visual effect, when shot with machinima and incorporated into a larger video.
