Chestnut Rau’s weekly round-up of upcoming SL events…
Sail For Life, chaired by Second Life sailing residents Chad Sawson and Aislin Keynes, will center around Second Life’s vibrant sailing community and will benefit SL Relay for Life. The event kicks off with the 2nd Annual Nautilus City Summer Festival, June 18 through 20. Activities will include a Grand Sail parade spotlighting cancer survivors and caregivers, providing them with a tour of the sailing community. There will be boating safety and rescue demonstrations by the Second Life Coast Guard, a large boat show and auction, rock concerts, Tugby (Tugboat Rugby) matches, sail and power boat races including a ‘Rich Sailors’ regatta where skippers must be one of the highest six donation bidders to enter the race, an ongoing carnival, an art show with unique one of a kind pieces, and much more. ideaCity is an eclectic gathering of artists, adventurers, authors, cosmologists, doctors, designers, entertainers, filmmakers, inventors, magicians, musicians, scientists and technologists. Produced and presented by Moses Znaimer, ideaCity is not themed around any one topic, issue or business. There are no scripted speeches or, breakout or parallel sessions. Rather, everyone is in one place and in on the same narrative. All Day - University of Texas System Undergraduate Conference in Second Life
The purpose of the conference is to cultivate an international virtual learning community of students and educators. For the morning sessions, the primary audience will be faculty and support staff interested in Second Life as a learning tool. For the afternoon sessions, the primary audience will be undergraduate students interested in Second Life and virtual worlds. Guest speakers include prominent UT Professors from a wide variety of disciplines from Technology to Medicine and Art. 10am - China Tang Storytelling
Yeh-Shen is a Chinese fairy tale that resembles the Cinderella story. It is one of the oldest known variants of Cinderella, first published in the9th-century compilation Miscellaneous Morsels from Youyang. Presentations throughout the day include topics such as enabling deaf or blind users in Second life, a style-enabled fashion show, and accessibility issues and solutions in Second Life. The workshop will cover strategies for database searching, procedures for using alerting services and RSS feeds, and ways to locate additional grant information on the Internet. 7. Bonus consideration given to game-related or machinima events, and for events with "I've never seen that in SL before!" value.
