Update, July 10: Bumped up and updated. Show is tonight, hope you can make it! I probably can't, alas, some sudden personal shenanigans came up, but if you do go (and you should), take photos and share them with me!
If you're in San Francisco this weekend (and you really should, the weather's fairly kickass), there's a very cool Second Life mixed reality event at the famed DNA Lounge in the SOMA district: Bootie, an ongoing mash-up show that's hugely popular with clubbers, is partnering up with Second Life's Club Republik, which has a virtual Bootie show of its own. The Republik's SL show is going to be streamed onto the DNA's big screens; I'm going to be there in San Francisco, and I hope to dance with you there, or at least see you hitting it in the metaverse.
The Second Life segment will be hosted at the Republik by Keela Latte (left), and I'm looking forward to the show for all kinds of reasons. For one, the DNA Lounge is widely considered one of San Francisco's best dance clubs (which makes it one of the best in the US), so it's great to see Second Life presented in such a cool venue. (And a geek-friendly one at that, as the DNA is owned by an open source programmer who launched it with his Netscape IPO riches.) May it be just one of many more mixed reality shows to come.
Much mahalo to Club Republik co-owner Amanda Shinji for the tip!
Attended the event and it was quite the party to say the least.
Smash-up Derby was amazing and having all the avi's up on the wall at the DNA Lounge worked out really well. Very fun time indeed. Hope to see more events like that. Party lasted until 3AM SLT.
Yoz Linden made a surprise appearance as well:

I was concerned Yoz was going to fall off the top balcony of the club. Luckily Yoz coordination was in perfect form and no injuries were sustained.

i attended as well, along with soror nishi (who was in UK so was morning for her). it would have been kewl to have some kind of RL camera feeding into the SL club onto a prim or screen so we could see what was going on there in the RL club as well.

"it would have been kewl to have some kind of RL camera feeding into the SL club onto a prim or screen so we could see what was going on there in the RL club as well."
I was thinking the same exact thing. I must say it helps to have a multi-monitor setup though. I was watching the RL feed on one screen and the SL application on the other.
Without 2 screens I would imagine that it would have been less immersive, so yeah, on a prim would have been nice as well. Perhaps next time that will happen. It would have been cool to have that (RL feed on a prim) because then the RL clubbers could have seen themselves on the wall inside of SL. They would have thought that was trippy I'm sure. I can't wait for the next one. I was impressed with Smash-Up Derby as well. Lots of good music, and lots of laughs.
Never did find out what happened to the goggle guy though...
