Mark your calendar and put in your RSVP: This Friday at 10am SLT, Linden Lab's interim CEO Philip Rosedale and recently appointed Chief Financial Officer Bob Komin will, as promised, hold an in-world meeting and Q&A session to talk about the future of Second Life. Go here to request a seat or get information on catching the presentation streamed live on the web. A lot of NWN readers have a lot of questions for Philip, and it'll be interesting to see what he answers, and how.
Also worth noting: Far as I know, since joining the company last January, this is the first in-world appearance of Bob Komin, whose avatar has been dubbed "BK Linden", which reminds me more of hamburgers than metaverse executives, but maybe that's just my tummy talking. (At the moment, notably, he's the only Linden executive on the company homepage without an avatar.) As Linden's CFO, Komin is very likely the driving force behind the company cutbacks which led to laying off 30% of the staff. Some insiders have speculated to me that Komin is being groomed to replace Philip as Linden Lab's CEO after the interim period is over, so look for signs whether that's the case this Friday.

If that's the case the fact that he hasn't decided on an avatar yet doesn't bode well! Still, I'm sure someone can send him a walking hamburger avatar.

In all fairness, LL is possibly finding it hard to find providers that are now dedicated to Second Life. Many, while still have a presence in SL, have moved base to one on the Opensimulator based worlds.

I can say politely Breen that you are way off on this. Does President Obama only allow MSNBC to broadcast his speeches to the nation? Think about how that would change the media landscape. A huge event like this should not be partnered with 1 media company. I understand the limitations with who and who can not enter 1 sim, which is Linden Labs huge problem to begin with but hell, the more media reporting and broadcasting and doing audio the more the message gets out. To say hey, Treet will broadcast the rest of you can get in a lotto. Not right, no matter how you want to spin it.
