Chestnut Rau’s weekly round-up of upcoming SL events…
Starting Friday 8/13 and running through to Sunday 8/14 the Second Life Community Convention takes place in Boston, MA. The meet up in the physical world is a rare opportunity for members of the broad SL community to get together in the to discuss the work we do and to socialize. There will be live music, a DJed Avatar Ball and panel discussions on a wide variety of topics from business, education and non-profits to fashion and research. Keynote talks by Philip Linden, Dusan Writer and the ex Pathfinder Linden are sure to be popular.A complete program, information about registration and calendar of events can be found here. We've seen them everywhere: from blingy jewelry to fires, bees following us,roses emitters and other patterns. So we'll learn what particles are and their most important properties, how to create those effects and how to stop them. For a better understanding of the particle system properties, the class will use a free HUD as a tool, available here (please be sure to have it before coming to class) This is a heavily scripted HUD and we'll be adding and removing particles which means lag. 1:30 to 3pm - The Wall - Mother, Should I Trust the Government?
The Wall V-4' is collaboration of international artists working with the Cybernetic Art Research Project (CARP) to bring a unique vision and interpretation of Pink Floyd's "The Wall" into SL. 3. Please send related graphics such as screen shots or photo of the event site, if available.
4. Events with artistic, cultural, scientific, political, creative, and/or educational value preferred.
5. Events sponsored or promoted by real world corporations are welcome,
as long they serve and entertain the Second Life community, and/or
foster
Resident-made content (live music, builds, scripting, fashion, games, etc.) Events that merely promote the company or organization's Second Life presence
are not generally appropriate; you may instead consider advertising your event or service on New World Notes.
6. Mature-rated events are permissible, but listing descriptions should
be PG-13. Political and religious events are encouraged, though those
of an
extreme or non-inclusive variety are rarely included.
7. Bonus consideration given to game-related or machinima events, and
for events with "I've never seen that in SL before!" value.
