If you're in the Virginia area and you've used Second Life for more than 50 hours, you may want to participate in a study on real world personality and avatar behavior, run by Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) and the Georgia Institute of Technology. Participation will require one three hour Second Life lab session at SAIC in Arlington, and up to three regularly scheduled Second Life sessions online. Any identifying information will be kept confidential, the researchers tell me, and volunteers get a $100 gift card or $28,000 in Lindens. Disclosure: I first learned about this potentially interesting, peer-reviewed study when the researchers bought an ad on Federated Media, but one of the key academics is Georgia Tech's Dr. Celia Pearce, who has been studying SL and virtual worlds for many years, so I'm confident it'll likely be a worthwhile project. And hey, 100 damn dollars. More info at this link.
