This video below is not from the opening of an animated film. As presented by Dimitrio Lewis, this is a woodland sim in Second Life called Mirromere. Hit Play, pause, and after you have, be sure 720p is selected. Then watch:
Dimitrio shot it with a Space Navigator and running the Snowglobe 1.3.2 viewer, with most graphics settings turned up to maximum, including draw distance, using his own custom WindLight and water settings. (Surprisingly, he says shadows were not enabled.) As for the machine he used, "My system is quite moderate: AMD X2 5200+, Geforce 9800GT, running on Windows XP 32-bit." Much of the magic was added in post-production: "This footage was actually sped up 250% to regain some smoothness. Thecolors were tweaked and desaturated in After Effects."
And now that you've seen Mirromere in machinima, here's your chance to see it in person: Direct SLurl teleport to Mirromere at this link.
Hat tip: Second Life Update.
Another lovely machinima - almost Tolkienesque - a good idea to do the speeding up as it made the result very smooth.

"(Surprisingly, he says shadows were not enabled.)"
Why not? How come? Turn them on, turn the shadows on. We want shadows.
Although, even without the shadows, that was an amazing video.

Wow. That's exactly why I need a new computer with a really good graphics card.
