Rowan Derryth of Prim Perfect has a great two part profile of and interview with AM Radio, Second Life name of an unknown artist who creates immersive art installations which in Rowan's eyes, places him in the tradition of painters like Wyeth and Whistler. Though Radio himself demurs:
Currently I can’t say any particular painter is influencing me. Right now I’d say American transcendentalist literature is a larger influence. But painters, I think Rothko, Jasper Johns, even Kline, Motherwell, Pollock, and of course American realism of that era.
Part 1 is here, and Part 2, where the screenshot above, depicting AM Radio's "The Ladder and a Floating Sky", is here.
Radio is an extremely gifted and intuitive person and artist and the grid is lucky to have him :X

There's only three people in SL that leave me speechless in awe with their talent. AM is one of them.

AM Radio is our hero! Humble, uber-talented and one of the kindest, most generous people we know. We love what he did for Artemis' Auralei EP cover! http://bit.ly/cJCRJA
