Got anything you want to say about Second Life, OpenSim, Blue Mars, next generation gaming, user-generated content, this blog, tech news or popular culture about any of the above? Say so here. One possible place to start: What do you think of the new beta for Viewer 2?

I haven't played around with the beta all that much (just a couple of hours), but it seems to be considerably improved (at least over 2.0). The flow in the users tab is still a bit too clicky for my tastes, but I don't use that all that often. The tearable tabs from the side bar are a definite improvement, though. The key thing is that it looks like the new snowstorm viewer process is starting to produce its first set of results, so I'm excited to see that get off the ground. I am hopeful that new process will work out and get some improvements to the viewer... especially where there have been bugs with known patches for ages that have never made it into the official viewer. /fingerscrossed
Completely unrelated to viewer 2 but related to my weekend: it looks like MICA (the Meta Institute for Computational Astrophysics: http://mica-vw.org/wiki/index.php/Upcoming_Public_Events) is starting up their fall series of public lectures on astronomy and astrophysics in the StellaNova sim. I think they are generally scheduled for 10:00 AM SLT on Saturdays. Today's was on parallel universes and was both interesting and entertaining.
For those with an interest in Zen Buddhism, the Kannonji Zen Retreat (http://kannonjiretreat.com/) in the Snowlion Mountain sim might be of interest to check out. They have several meditation sessions each day and talks scheduled at various points in the week. This afternoon, there was an interesting and lively discussion with a priest of the Korean Zen tradition.
I guess that's enough plugging of my current favorites for now. :-)

I'll be camping at Fussy. Great rates.
