Exclusive to NWN, Iris Ophelia's ongoing showcase of all things stylish in SL
I promise not to spoil last week's episode, but I really had no choice but to follow my previous Mad Men post on Joan Holloway-worthy formwear and lingerie with an article covering the Sterling silver fox himself, Roger Sterling. Keep reading for all the details on this slick, savvy (and surprisingly virile) businessman's look!
Finding a mature looking men's skin that isn't comically over-aged is pretty tricky, which is a little disappointing considering that I wrote about this issue two years ago and things haven't changed much since. I settled on the Vlad Konstantine Veteran skin by Simple Spad of Signature Skin Labs [SLurl] even though the shaggy eyebrows make it a bit less than ideal. For Roger's hair, I tweaked a style called Peter by Bryce Tully of Bryce [SLurl]. Bryce has quite a few mature men's styles, so it was a huge relief to find his store. He's wearing the Elegant Suit by machang Pichot of Aoharu [SLurl], but be warned that it's definitely built for much larger avatars that the rather narrow Roger Sterling, so it took a lot of fiddling to get it to look right. Roger's shoes are the Classic Loafers from Redgrave [SLurl], who have a pretty impressive range of shoes for men, and the final touch is of course a smoking set. This time I chose Albion Cigarettes by Ernst Osterham of Albion Importers Ltd.[SLurl], since they bear an uncanny resemblance to the Lucky Strikes that Roger's agencies have promoted throughout the series, down to Don's "It's Toasted" slogan on the box. These cigarettes also come with a case, a lighter, and a HUD that even allows you to offer a cigarette to a friend from your case. It's an absolute essential if you want to adopt Roger's mannerisms along with his look.
Since suits can be a bit repetitive I decided to only do one look for Roger, however after I shot Roger's outfit the makers of one of the lingerie sets I dressed Joan in released a Mad Men inspired suit, shown on the side, in their menswear branch, Savile Row [SLurl]. While I'm not modeling the suit, I absolutely have to mention it both because of the direct inspiration and because if it had come out a week sooner it would have easily made it onto my Roger avatar. If you have a slimer male avatar, or you would prefer some different colour choices without getting quite as crazy as the other options in this Aoharu suit, you absolutely need to check out the Madison Avenue suit by CJ Carnot of Savile Row.
That's all for this week, but keep an eye out next week for my take on the ambitious Peggy Olson! In the mean time, check out my other Mad Metaverse Men posts here:
