Exclusive to NWN, Iris Ophelia's ongoing showcase of all things stylish in SL
Peggy may not have Joan's raw sex appeal, but throughout the series she's done very well for herself. From a simple steno pool secretary to one of the key copywriters at Sterling Cooper Draper Price, Peggy's gone through just as much development and change as Don, even though she's done much of it under the radar. If I had to pick a single female character from Mad Men to label the protagonist, I wouldn't even hesitate in naming her. Naturally, I had to try my hand at making a Peggy Avatar.
Peggy's gawkiness and uniquely mousey features make her a bit challenging. I opted not to take the easy route by doing a more recent looking avatar that relies on how polished and cute she has become since losing her girlish ponytail, and instead I settled on a mix of seasons 1 and 2, complete with neck scarves, cardigans, and A-line skirts.
For starters, I used the Jejune skin from tres blah by Juliette Westerburg [SLurl] because, like Peggy, it has a lot of little moles as well as some less than perfectly groomed brows. Bubbles Clawtooth's Somebody's Lady ponytail from Clawtooth by Clawtooth [SLurl] is a perfect addition to the avatar, though I've shortened the bangs dramatically to be a little more true to the original. For Peggy's outfit, I've layered Antonia Marat's Elspeth cardigan from artilleri [SLurl] over the Stenno blouse by Betty Doyle of Ingenue [SLurl] and Kyon Torok's Bias skirt from ::humming:: [Marketplace link]. I've also tinted an intershirt to match the skirt to avoid an unprofessional gap of skin between the waist of the skirt and the hem of the blouse, which I wish was a little longer. Of course no office outfit would be complete without stockings, in this case a gold-toned pair from the LoveLace [SLurl] outfit Augustine. The neckerchief is taken from the Ana outfit from Tuli [SLurl], and Peggy's low-heeled Mary Jane's are the Flapper shoes from 1-800 Bettie's [SLurl]. Add a sketchbook from **DP**yumyum [SLurl] and a pencil from Magic Nook [SLurl], and she's ready to brainstorm!
What have I dressed Peg in for a night of socializing? Keep reading to find out!
Peggy doesn't go out too often, so I had to take some creative liberties with her eveningwear. For her hair, I chose the more relaxed Love Love Love style by Autumn Hykova of Tiny Bird [SLurl]. As for her outfit, Peggy doesn't seem to wear much in the way of flashy jewelry or accessories, so I kept things simple with the Dawn dress by Amutey DeCuir of Bliss Couture [SLurl] and the Jenna pumps in a matching pastel shade from Exclusiva [SLurl].
If you prefer the more contemporary Peggy Olson, I have to tip my hat to Miko Omegamu of Icing [SLurl] who made a series of super cute buttoned pencil dresses modelled after Peggy's houndstooth dress worn in the season 2 promotional art. Miko's made this dress in several colours, including a blue and white version that would be dynamite on a Joan avatar as well.
