Exclusive to NWN, Iris Ophelia's ongoing showcase of all things stylish in SL
With this week's installment of my "Mad Men meets the metaverse" series, I added a relative unknown. I don't want to spoil last week's episode, but suffice it to say there's been a major upset out of left field. And consequently, I just had to put together a Megan avatar immediately. If you've fallen behind this season, you may not even remember who Megan is (does anyone even know her last name?), so I've included a side-by-side comparison of my Megan and the real deal. Formerly the receptionist at Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce, she's been an object of fascination for Peggy's artist friends due to her swan-like build, and more recently, became Don's secretary, and then... Well, today I'd originally planned to show you my avatar of Dr. Faye Miller, Don Draper's girlfriend, but swapping Megan in first seemed appropriate.
- For Megan's base avatar, I found Unique Megastore's Meggan skin, by Nany Merlin [SLurl], had nearly perfect features. I usually try to steer clear of skins that draw directly on the faces of celebrities, but Meggan was just too close to ignore.
- I augmented the skin's makeup a little with a tattoo layer eyeliner made by myself, and chose a tall updo called Allison from fri.day [SLurl] to top her off. The style was originally very mussed and wispy, so I've edited it to tidy it up a little -- messy hair is a huge no-no for a retro avatar, as much as we love the look now.
- As with most of my Mad Men ladies, I also gave Megan a set of oval-shaped prim nails from Love Soul by BlueStarRUI Villota [SLurl].
- We haven't seen Megan much outside of the office, so my first outfit for her really has to be a classic and modest work ensemble, with a little mod flair. I've layered the Victoria High-Waisted Pencil Skirt by Dakota Buck of Whippet & Buck [SLurl] with their Sgt. Pepper Cropped Jacket in the same shade.
- The Little Bow Earrings are also from Whippet & Buck, though they're no longer available.
- For Megan's office footwear, I chose the new Delphines by Fallingwater Cellardoor of Shiny Things [SLurl], in a shade of brown that brings out the gold accents a little more (though admittedly the picture doesn't show the most flattering angle of them.)
I was a little torn in terms of what Megan should wear in the evening. Formal wear or lingerie? We haven't seen her in anything terribly fancy, but we could also use another dose of vintage lingerie. Keep reading to see which look I've picked for the evening of our swan-like stenographer!
I've never been good at making decisions, so why not both? Both of these looks are also from Whippet & Buck, which is a cornucopia of sweet vintage-inspired clothes that were an absolute match for Megan's personality.
- The understated but flattering dress pictured above is the Chapman Shift Dress, which was originally released for Project Donate but will be available in store this week.
- I've paired it with the blush pink Sally necklace and earring set by Squinternet Larnia of Donna Flora [SLurl], which I love for retro looks because they're chunky without looking bulky or unfeminine.
- As for her lingerie, she's wearing the slightly more modern Agnes lingerie set from Whippet & Buck, complete with waist cincher, and I've let her hair down into another style from fri.day, Yelena 2.
- Finally, I've tinted a pair of white Suede Platform Pumps from Paper Couture [SLurl] to match both looks.
Although I've never been overly fond of Megan as a character, I can definitely see why Peggy's friends are so enamoured with her –– she's been one of the most fun Mad Men avatar to dress yet. But there's still more to come! Until then, catch up on the rest of the Second Life of Mad Men:
- The Precocious Peggy Olson
- The Legendary Roger Sterling
- Joan Holloway by day and by night
- Donning Don Draper!
- I've Got Betty Draper Eyes
