Iris has advice on using Blue Mars' "Try On" feature, which allows you to see what an item of clothing looks like on your avatar before you buy it. Speaking of which, this month I'm taking a break from helping develop the Blue Mars blog as a consultant, but Iris is there throughout December, blogging up a fashion storm.

Note to other VW and MMO developers -- this is a COVET feature for any world, even those with no user-created content. I hate, hate, hate spending money on clothes that I end up not using because the ad or preview or thumbnail artfully concealed fatal flaws.

It's nice BlueMars can get away with that.
It could be done in SL too, but,
1.) Regular clothing items can't be scripted.
2.) For attachment-based clothing, the risk of copybot is too high to allow it.
I'm sure mesh avatars will see use this feature, though.

This is a pretty neat tool for online fashion shopping. My question is, do you get to customize the avatar to your own measurements? Not everyone's body type is the same, so it's nice to be able to know how a piece will look on you before buying it.
