Chestnut Rau on Upcoming Second Life Events
This weekend there will be a two day celebration of the life of Delinda Dyrssen, a well-loved figure in Second Life who died quite unexpectedly of kidney failure last month, and spent her last hours in a coma as community members in SL tried to wake her. Delinda was a dear friend who always seemed to know about the newest and most interesting things happening in SL. Her death is a personal loss for me and I hope this weekend is a fitting tribute to her and the loving community she created.
So while I'm no longer covering SL events for New World Notes, I wanted to make sure NWN readers knew about this Memorial, which is a celebration of Delinda's life and is intended to bring together the things she loved about Second Life: music, art, sailing, performance, friends and community. There will be live performances by more than 45 top SL musicians like Skye Galaxy, CraigLyons Writer, and The Follow, comedy by Lauren Wayland and Phaylen Fairchild, a grand sail around Delinda's home estate Sailor's Cove, an art auction featuring work by more than 30 SL artists, and tributes from those who knew Delinda.
- The Memorial will take place on Saturday 12/18, 9am-9:30pm SLT at the Sailors Cove Theater. [SLurl teleport at this link]
- The Memorial will take place Sunday 12/19, 9am - 11pm SLT at The Pocket. [SLurl teleport at this link]
- If you're looking for a crowd-free place to enjoy the celebration of Delinda Dyrssen's life, the audio of the memorial will be streamed here and also here.
The full calendar of events can be found here. In addition to celebrating Delinda's life, the purpose of the Memorial is to raise awareness of about kidney disease and the international database for paired kidney donation that Delinda was promoting when she died so suddenly. KDIGO is a global non-profit foundation dedicated to improving the care and outcomes of kidney disease patients. Please visit the KDIGO webpage and read more about the organization here. Delinda's RL family and her SL friends are asking people who are so inclined to make memorial donations to the National Kidney Foundation in her name here. Please use her RL name, Denise Williams, so her family will get a note acknowledging your gift.
