The prestigious arts magazine ARTPULSE has a good extended feature on Second Life machinima and other avant garde video art, eloquently written by Madrid art curator Cristina García-Lasuén (Aino Baar in SL) who is among the most prominent advocates of machinima in the international art world. Bryn Oh, a Toronto painter who is among the best artists who uses the metaverse as a medium, encourages lovers of the art scene to support this article with their clicks and comments:
The article is important the same way as the Art21 article written by Nettrice Gaskins was last year. They are both written in an art forum where very few are aware of the art we are creating here in Second Life or rather in virtual worlds. It steps over the "walled garden" we worry about so frequently. With the Art21 article I had asked if people would mind leaving a comment to show them that there is indeed interest for virtual artists. Nettrice told me that we brought down their website for a day. But again I would ask you to go read the article and leave a comment if you have a moment.
I am so in sync with Ms. Oh -- if metaverse art is ever going to reach acceptance by the wider art world, it means giving it more prominence on sites like ARTPULSE. Here's some art-for-art's-sake machinima I'd recommend to ARTPULSE readers as an introduction to the form:
- Cao Fei's "i.mirror"
- Lainy Voom's "Push"
- Luca Lisci's "Prometheus"
- Lyric Lundquist's "Cradle and Trap"
- Bryn Oh's music video for Moby's "Stay With Me"
Just a few of many that I'd show an artist friend who'd never experienced metaverse machinima art before. Go here to recommend many more.
Please Hamlet let's not forget that virtual TV content is also machinima, there is a very rich and vibrant community of TV Machinima creators that never get a mention when talking about Machinima. I'm greatfull that the author of this article did also talk about TV style machinima. Paisley
