"Fusion", a Second Life machinima by Iono Allen, has utterly gorgeous visuals complemented by a rich soundtrack, a dreamlike story-within-a-story partly inspired by French film master Alan Resnais (Last Year in Marienbad). Watch:
It was also inspired by 3D art installations of Second Life art master Bryn Oh, in particular her sci-fi steampunk-flavored story The Rabbicon, summarized here and also here. "In Bryn's Rabbicorn story," Mr. Allen explains, "at the very beginning, the robot girl was human, she was a little girl very sick, and her soul has been transferred to a robot girl." This was the source of inspiration for his own story:
"I just imagined here that many times later -- Centuries? Who knows? -- the robot girl has managed to again become a human, and the woman with grey hair (the same kind of hair as the robot girl) tells the 'Standby' story to another woman whom we don't know. (A friend? Her daughter?)" Memories with memories -- and a machinima that references another creative work within the world it's created in, along with a master of an older film medium.
machinima at its very best!
