ColeMarie Soleil explores Second Life's arts scene for New World Notes
Originalia, Amase Levasseur's sim dedicated to art in Second Life [click to teleport here], hosted a new art show opening last weekend, to an enthusiastic crowd. Sim restarts. Teleport overload. Crashing. Yet people kept coming back for more. That is because there is a little something for everyone to be seen. Whether you are a fan of photography, like more unique spots to explore, or just want to see something a little silly. There is something there for you at "Reverie", featuring new installations by Em Larsson, Scottius Polke, RAG Randt and Eliza Wierwight. During the opening, I spoke with each about their work:

I managed to steal Scottius for a few moments to speak with him about his opening at "Reverie" to get a little backstory on the build.
"Well I started playing with Scribbler last year..." Scottius began, "I loved the textures it could make and wound up creating the picture that would be the inspiration for this entire build.
"Probably the most exciting thing for me is how this build, while based on the sketch, took a life of its own. It has the same basic subject, but there is a whole new dimension to it. To be honest this place is a bit of a mystery to me still. Anyway, I don't want to wax too philosophical because I think it can take away [from the experience.]"
Three more after the break:
It is because of people like Amase Levasseur, who donate space for the artists to create, that we are able to enjoy builds like these. "Reverie" begins in the gallery with RAG Randt's new show "Doggie Dreams."
Dog Dreams, RAG Randt - [click here to teleport]
RAG's new work started from an unpublished children's book [.pdf link] he wrote called The ABCs of AL. RAG submitted the completed manuscript and drawings to numerous publishers to no avail. The book went into the archives. Then found new life in Second Life.
"Everything I do has to pass a test," RAG told me. "When I finish it, it must say 'Oooh yeah' to me. I communicate through humor where possible. It's just me. I thought it would be a fun exercise to deconstruct the characters and drawings from the book into new Second Life 3D constructions. The result is a series of art boxes incorporating RL and SL textures, scripting and particles -- proving that there is life after RL rejection!"
Temporal Dreams, Em Larsson [click to teleport]
Across the bridge in front of the gallery, Em Larsson has created an art walk amid the island's tropical plants. In "Temporal Dreams," Em says, "For this show, I wanted to recreate the feeling of unreality that we often experience when we dream. Asleep, our minds may blend odd elements, some mundane and some fantastical in a strange and implausible mélange that we somehow still manage to credit. The images are all different from each other, but all carry an element representing time – thus – 'Temporal Dreams.' The too-fast passage of time is something that always lurks in the back of my own mind."
Aria, Eliza Wierwight - [click to teleport]
Across the way and around the corner you will find "Aria" from Eliza Wierwight, a whimsical nocturne engraved with all the aesthetics and charm of the River Styx. She states, "I don't have the answers. I don't write essays. I create what I love. It's instinctual. 'Aria' is a compilation of ideas, light and dark, where the common thread is the potential for music to heighten emotion. Music remains my partner whenever I create. In 'Aria' it has become my ally as well as my guide. If I were asked if I had any goal with this work, it would be impart optimism."
Overall, in "Reverie", there is something for everyone. A great community of creators sharing a common goal. To share, explore, and enjoy art.

Just wanted to take the time to thank you Cole for your review & support of our collective works at Originalia. Time is such a precious commodity and it's evident you invested yours in us when you shared the great article above.
