Good news via Twitter (ironically enough): Second Life web profiles will soon include support for Plurk, another microblogging service that has a strong following among hardcore SL users. By "strong", I mean several thousand daily Plurk users are affiliated with Second Life, a company spokesman recently told me. But with Facebook apparently clamping down on profiles that are Second Life avatars, that number may grow. Hat tip: Daniel Voyager.

Is there any stats on Plurk and Twitter popularity with SL residents?

As Saffia Widdershins said in the Angie Mornington post, "If the best place to find Second Life content ISN'T Second Life, there's something seriously wrong with the product."
SL is fairly lame as a gaming platform; IMHO most avatars are their for social networking. After Linden Labs closed AvatarsUnited, they promised us an SL alternative. Why doesn't Rodvik finally put that AU software to use, and give us the avatar friendly version of FB we were promised?
Sure, keep the links to FB, Plurk, Twitter, etc., but a FB style, avatar friendly, social networking site could generate as much traffic as SL itself, and bring in ad revenue for Linden Labs, as well as satisfy a social need among SL avatars that FB is not interested in supporting.

There is an avatar friendly version of facebook called 2nd Hub http://www.2ndhub.com/ . It's growing pretty fast lately. But very cool that Plurk will be joining the buttons. Thanks for listening LL.

2ndhub.com is the new FB for SLers and it's pretty cool, but Plurk is where you find out about everything that matters in SL. So yeah, LL got it right this time!
