The University of Western Australia just announced the winners to its Second Life machinima contest, which garnered about 50 entries and was judged in part by auteur Peter Greenaway. The grand prize was shared by two entries, "Juroney" by Eric Boccara, and “A Journey Into the Metaverse” by Tutsy Navarathna. As it happens, I profiled both machinimas earlier this month: Here's my post on Tutsy's machinima; click here to watch it. (Embedding has been disabled.) Below is Eric's rousingly kickass "Juroney", which I wrote about here.
The other big winner was Bryn Oh, who won the "Peter Greenaway Prize" expressly selected by the director himself for her plangent machinima, "Rusted Gears". Watch and weep below:
This was an extraordinary contest. The difficulty the judges must have faced is difficult to comprehend.
Congratulations to the winners and kudos to all that dared to compete.

Yes it was extremely difficult. Many many deserving works missed out simply because of the overall quality of the entire pool.
Was a joy to run this!

I liked "Journey Into the Metaverse," and "Rusted Gears." Great work.
A bit hard to see why the world needs another car chase/mindless shootout/gratuitous cannibalism flick, but perhaps the palette of "Juroney," reminded Greenaway of Dutch Renaissance painting?
In any case, I admire the professionalism and technical skills demonstrated by all.
